I figured out something recently. The new Porsche Cayman, which I like very much, and is undoubtedly a step forward for Porsche in this model line, has lost a little something that was part of the charm of the original Cayman. The fenders! Check out the photo comparison below.

For me, one of the great styling features of the Porsche 911, carried through in the 997 and 987 model lines, was the bulbous fenders holding the headlamps. This is a direct result of not having an engine in the front of the car. The new 991 and 981 look as if they *could* have an engine in the front, because the hood line is so high. The fender line is barely above the hood line, created only by the crease. The fenders are more implied than real on the new car.
